It's use is limited, but on certain types of sounds it really brings them out, like high pitched drum sounds such as snare,rim,claps,sticks etc it really brings them out. But be carefull cause it will diminish bassier sounds. As blachdogstudio pointed out it goes well on vocals aswell, to me it has to be in conjunction with a good reverb (preferably dark). The ssl plugin will make a burried voice sit out in a mix in a very strong way!

All in all, it sounds horrible on some things but good and even great on others!
