Best Fostex Full Range Driver

The Fostex FE207E is good for a small bass reflex enclosure though is not not suitable for a horn, and the FE208E is for back horn loading. They're quite detailed and well suited to flea amps but there isn't much bass below 60Hz. Probably the best driver from Fostex was the FX200 but they were sadly discontinued. The Fostex FE208EZ Sigma is tad less detailed in the highs, but with the T900A super tweeter crossed with a single cap in the IM Ben loaded horn was the trick from Cain & Cain before Terry's untimely leave. The 'EnAbled Drivers' treatment from David Dlugos of Planet 10 became really popular year agos. It consist of small dots placed usually near the diaphragm's center and edge to help alleviate breakup modes in certain regions and aided in subjective sonic clarity, but the Sigma series seemed to work best without it due to the hyperbolic paraboloid diaphragms that were designed to do the job to some extent already.

Like mantisory notes, some Visation's were really good but I've never heard the B200 model, and I'd like to give it a whirl some day. Lowther's DX2 and DX3 were liked by some and have a following but were hard and bright for my taste in fullrangers, but experiences may vary. Have tried above drivers except the corals. The drivers that sounded too upfront were the fostex sigma 208 and the lowthers, initially may appeal but was too tiring in the long haul especially when driven to loud. Very good though when you need to listen to low volume as it still communicates the critical mids. The philips was in another league, the 9710 had very good bottom for the least box volume.

The real sleeper was the telefunken 8 in driver as it was the only driver to image well in the bigger box, ( jericho horn ) spaced at 8 ft apart. Fostex recommended a long burn in for the 208, and on substitution still sounded too upfront and couldn't image well in a typical room 12x16. Dudley Perkins A Lil Light Zip Line. The odd part of it was the magnet size was no indicator as to how low the units can go, the fostex had a hefty magnet, while the telefunken was smaller, but the telefunken went really low.
